Frequently Asked Questions

How does your Home Visit package work?
With Birthing Baby's Home Visit package, our midwife, Sherry, will provide all prenatal and postpartum care in your home. This optional service requires a significant time investment from the midwife, therefore it is a more expensive option than our popular Office Visit package.

How does your Office Visit package work?
With Birthing Baby's Office Visit package, our midwife, Sherry, provides most care in our office in Katy, TX. A home visit is provided at approximately 36 weeks, and your early postpartum visits in are also in your home. At 2 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum, visits are back in our office.

Where are you located?
Our office is in Katy, TX in the Seven Meadows area. We are south of I-10 and west of the 99 Grand Parkway.

Do you attend waterbirths?
Absolutely! Many of our clients choose to birth in water. Some women like having a birth pool to labor in even if they want to get out for the actual birth.

Should I have a doula at a homebirth?
This is entirely your decision. Houston has some wonderful doulas to choose from. We are happy to provide referrals, if needed. Even the experienced mother can benefit from the extra care a doula provides. Certainly if this is your first baby or you have a history of long labors, a doula is probably a good idea!

Can my other children be present at the birth?
Absolutely! We just ask that an adult (other than the laboring mother's husband/partner) be present to attend to the needs of any small children.

Can I still have a homebirth if I live in an apartment / have pets?
Yes!

Do you work with a back-up OB?
Yes! I have an excellent relationship with a local obstetrician/gynecologist. This is helpful in cases where a physician consult or referral is needed.

Will I go to a Patient Center to have my lab work done?
No, all routine labs can be collected in our office or at your home. The specimens will be picked up at our Katy office and delivered to the lab.

What about ultrasound scans?
Ultrasound scans are still available to Birthing Baby clients. Most clients choose to have an anatomy scan at approximately 20 weeks. Occasionally, a first or third trimester ultrasound is medically indicated.

Do you bill insurance?
Yes, we are able to bill most insurance electronically. How much insurance pays varies significantly depending on the company and the specific policy. Your policy will need to have out-of-network coverage.

What is your fee?
Fees vary based on the package selected and the discounts applied. For a ballpark figure, most clients who choose the Office Visits package pay between $4500 and $5200. Most clients who choose the Home Visits package pay between $5500 and $6200.

Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! Birthing Baby offers a cash/early-pay discount for those who are uninsured or those who choose not have Birthing Baby bill their insurance. We also offer a discount to active and retired military service members, and we have varying promotional discounts.

Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, a $500 deposit is due at your first prenatal visit. After that, the balance owed is divided into equal monthly payments with the final payment due at 36-37 weeks. If the monthly payment is a significant hardship to your family, creative payment options can be explored.

Do you take Medicaid?
No, unfortunately at this time we are unable to accept Medicaid payments.
